About Nitin:

Nitin Julka is Vice President of Smart Solutions, Inc., an IT solutions provider serving customers in Education, State and Local government, Higher Education, and Law. Nitin led efforts to restructure the company and move towards a business unit strategy. He has been involved with mergers and acquisitions in the education space including the acquisition of an education managed services provider, and a spin-off of an educational software company.

Nitin oversees the Education and Technical Divisions at Smart Solutions, serving over 100 schools and school districts across the nation. Smart Solutions has completed over $50m in E-Rate services since the program’s inception.

Nitin received his MBA from Columbia Business School with a focus on entrepreneurship and received his BS from University of Wisconsin-Madison with degrees in Computer Science and Psychology.

Paul Karlin,  Associate Director

About Paul:

Paul Karlin has over 25 years experience as a teacher, administrator, and education technology leader. As Educational Technology Manager at Cleveland Schools, Paul successfully attained over $75M of technology funding, administered the installation of the district’s WAN, and coordinated technology professional development for some 5,000 teachers. Paul has also worked as an E-Rate consultant and has vast knowledge in this area. He is our resident “E-Rate Guru” who makes sure that Smart Solutions and our clients keep up to date with the many rules and requirements of the program.

About Shauna:

Shauna Mohler is currently the Associate Director of Professional Development at Smart Soltuions.  She works closely with teachers, technology coordinators and administrators to bring the world of technology into the classroom.

A former classroom teacher, technology coordinator and administrator, Shauna has a broad background in the field of education.  She cofounded a community school and has worked with school funding and grant administration.   Shauna collaborated with Cuyahoga Valley National Parks and Wheeling Jesuit University on a project to train cadres of teachers in technology integration and problem-based learning.   Shauna's hands-on training sessions equip teachers with the skills necessary to engage students at a digital level, thus increasing student engagement.

Mike Daugherty, Director, Education

About Mike:

As the leader of our education division, Mike Daugherty serves as Director of Technology for several school districts and charter networks in Northeast Ohio.  Mike has over 15 years of experience working with educational institutions on visioning, planning, budgeting, and implementing a wide vareity of large-scale IT projects.  These projects include rollouts of Google Apps for Eduation, designing and implementing wireless networks, email migrations, and bring your own device initiatives.  Mike has been instrumental in the implementation of 1:1 programs at several schools and has vast knowledge in this area.  Mike's technology expertise and deep understanding of the K12 environment enable him to design custom technical solutions that align with a school's strategic vision.  Using his practical education experience, Mike is not only able to design custom solutions, but show schools how they can easily move from a conceptual idea to an actual implementation of the appropriate technical solution.

Prior to Smart Solutions, Mike co-owned a managed services business focused on education clients.   He also worked as the network administrator for a mid-sized school district for seven years.  He holds a bachelor's degree from Kent State University with a focus on management information systems.
